The Kenya Legal and Ethical Issues Network on HIV & AIDS (KELIN) is looking to hire a Programme Officer for the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) thematic area. The position will be based in their Nairobi Office.

The Program Officer will be tasked with assisting the Program Manager in the growth and strategic direction of the thematic area through the effective conceptualisation, design and implementation of thematic activities. This post requires an experienced and results oriented person with a keen passion for human rights and SRHR. Further, the Program Officer should be able to guide and contribute meaningfully to the successful implementation, coordination and management of diverse partnerships both new and existing.
The candidate must be an innovative thinker with the ability to work through an analytical and logical framework. In addition, the candidate must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong writing skills, community organisation and mobilisation competence; and the ability to facilitate high-level consultative processes and mobilise joint actions with other likeminded civil society organizations.
Assist the Program Manager SRHR in the implementation and coordination of all programmes relating to sexual and reproductive health and rights within the organization.
Take lead in the implementation and coordination of programmes assigned by the Program Manager.
Assist in the coordination and implementation of program activities funded under the thematic area of SRHR.
Assist the Program Manager in guiding the strategic direction of the thematic area, by contributing to the thematic area strategic plan, guiding thematic area strategic decision-making and contributing to new strategic areas for SRHR.
Assist Program Manager in fundraising for the thematic area to ensure growth in programmatic and institutional aspects of the thematic area.
Foster good relations with donors, partners and the relevant government officials.
Undertake financial management of the annual program budget relating to Sexual Reproductive Health Rights including monitoring the spending levels.
Assist with the recruitment and supervision of associates, interns, volunteers, pro bono lawyers, and any other institutional responsibilities required in line with the thematic area.
Assist in the management of associates, interns, volunteers and pro bono lawyers.
Support the development of KELIN’s publications on key and emerging sexual reproductive health rights issues.
Work with the Program Manager to ensure close collaboration with other thematic areas within the KELIN strategy.
Represent the organization in international, regional, national and county platforms.
Publish at least one peer-reviewed article per annum on issues of SRHR.
Keep abreast with legal developments relevant to the SRHR thematic area.
Ensure timely submission of progress reports to donors and partners under the SRHR thematic area and any other project you will be assigned to work.
Assist in guiding the institutional direction of KELIN and in the implementation of its strategic plan 2021 – 2025.
Prepare, present and submit quality and timely weekly and annual plans; monthly, quarterly and annual reports of the work relating to your areas of assignment.
Participate in monthly, quarterly and annual planning meetings as organised by KELIN
To read, understand and abide by all KELIN institutional policies.
To read, understand and ensure application of the key resource material for KELIN staff relating to the thematic areas of KELIN.
Key Competencies and Requirements
A degree in Law with admission to the Bar in Kenya (preferable), significant experience within a legal environment with an understanding of legal processes is acceptable.
A Master’s Degree in Law, public health or social sciences will be an added advantage;
At least two years post graduate experience in designing and implementation of sexual and reproductive health rights programmes. Youth targeted programmes and human rights programmes will be an added advantage;
Knowledge on the legal environment on sexual and reproductive health and rights and a well-informed understanding of the linkages between health and human rights;
Experience in conceptualization and implementation of sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes;
Knowledge and appreciation of devolution processes is an advantage;
Previous experience in implementing similar projects is also an advantage;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Ability to think and operate strategically;
Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
Strong analytical, organisational, planning, and problem-solving skills;
Self-motivated and dynamic;
Ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly changing environment; and
Demonstrable sense of professionalism, ethics, integrity and commitment to KELIN’s mandate.
